June 28, 2025 - January 4, 2026
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its designation as European Capital of Culture and the 30th anniversary of its inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the city of Avignon has entrusted an enchanting artist with the task of investing its emblematic sites and museums, in order to reveal their richness and uniqueness..
From June 28, 2025, to January 4, 2026, Jean-Michel Othoniel will unfold a gigantic artistic constellation in the city of the popes, with Love as its celestial vault. A major event, a first on a national scale, the largest project ever conceived by the sculptor.
With this exceptional exhibition, spread across 10 unique locations, Jean-Michel Othoniel will present 250 works for Avignon.
He will invest the Palais des Papes, Pont d'Avignon, Petit Palais–Louvre Museum in Avignon, Calvet Museum, Requien Museum, Lapidary Museum, Convent of St. Clare, Pommer Baths, la Lambert Collection and Palace Square.
The exhibition "OTHONIEL COSMOS or the Ghosts of Love" draws a gigantic monumental journey which populates the free institutions and historic sites of the city.
The artist has created works that will be revealed from one place to another, crossing sculpture and painting, bricks and pearls, astrolabes and fountains, gold and glass, totems and infinite knots. Structured around the passion of love, this exhibition like no other is orchestrated like a great operatic machine with, as a highlight at the beginning of August, an installation and a performance in the Cour d'Honneur of the Palais des Papes, specially choreographed by Carolyn Carlson for Hugo Marchand and Caroline Osmont.
