An invitation to discover the Palace of the Popes and the life that was led there in the XNUMXth century through a guided tour.

Candlelight concerts are concerts where classical music artists and orchestras perform the music of the greatest composers or artists surrounded by hundreds of candles.

During the tour, we will explore the many faces of medieval art, focusing on the splendors of sculpture, the secrets of painting, and the magic of stained-glass windows with their thousand splendors. Then, in the calm of the workshop, the child will give free rein to their imagination to shape their own chimera in clay, a whimsical echo of the creatures of the past.

Through the captivating story of the Popes' arrival in Avignon, this tour offers a glimpse into the history and secrets of the Palace's construction. It offers a firsthand look at medieval architecture, which continues with a workshop where visitors can learn, with their own hands, the delicate art of building a vault.

The Avignon School of Art presents the fifth edition of the multifaceted and experimental event PasseMurailles from March 2nd to 13th, 2026. Exhibitions, lectures, performances, screenings: students question and reinvent the very modalities of exhibition. This year, ESAA students have undertaken the study and restoration of a model of the Palace of the Popes in 1450, created in the late 19th century by an infantry captain.

Following in the footsteps of the major exhibitions that have marked the Palais des Papes — from Picasso to Othoniel, via Sebastião Salgado, Yan Pei-Ming, Eva Jospin or Miss.Tic — the monument will host in 2026 a new major artistic proposal: that of Macha Makeïeff, who will take over the premises with an original creation, a reflection of her singular and very personal universe.
